Position: Processing Archivist/Registrar (12 months part time)
Reports to: Archives Program Manager
Job Purpose: Under the supervision of the Archives Program Manager of the Ruth Mott Foundation Archives at the Applewood Estate, the Processing Archivist/Registrar will conduct day-to-day management of a house historic, archives, and art object inventory. He or she will also accession unaccessioned objects uncovered by the inventory, will use various software applications, including PastPerfect, Frostbow, Excel, and Word, and will follow processing and description standards. The Processing Archivist/Registrar will direct the work of the Archives Assistant and Archives volunteers on these projects.
-Manage project steps.
-Break down project steps into component parts and develop procedures for data gathering, data entry, and re-cataloging.
-Set up and write directions for computer software applications and data structures.
-Conduct complex inventorying and registration.
-Assign to the Archives Assistant simple and iterative project components. Revise her work and assign new components.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
Required: MA in Public History, Museum Studies, Historical Administration, or Library Science with archives or museum concentration. At least one semester of work experience conducting registration, processing, and cataloging in an archives or museum setting. Demonstrated ability to manage concurrent, multi-stage projects and direct workers. Experience processing and describing archival or museum materials. Familiarity with cultural heritage description and encoding standards such as DACS, CCO, AACR2, EAD, and MARC. Strong analytical, organizational, computer, and writing skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; capacity to take initiative; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; flexibility; accurate and detail-oriented. Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 40lbs., to go up and down stairs, to stand for long periods, and to look at a computer screen for long periods of time.
Preferred: Experience with both archives and museum collections and objects. Experience conducting object inventories and working with appraisers. Experience with PastPerfect.
Hiring Rate: $15.00/hr
Hours: 30 hours/week for 52 weeks
