Grand Valley State University Libraries, Special Collections & University Archives seeks energetic, innovative, and collegial applicants for a newly created Assistant Archivist position. The Assistant Archivist’s primary responsibility is to manage processing and description of both analog and digital collections. The Assistant Archivist will provide reference services, assist with special projects as assigned; and will supervise student support staff, interns and volunteers; and performs other related duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will contribute to the Special Collections & University Archives team and work closely with the Metadata and Digital Curation Librarian. Required qualifications include a Master’s degree with concentration in archival studies; experience with Archivists’ Toolkit, ArchivesSpace, CONTENTdm? or other archival content management systems; demonstrated understanding of current metadata and descriptive standards such as DACS, EAD, Library of Congress authorities, Dublin Core, PREMIS; excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills; and excellent organizational skills. Preferred one year experience working in a university Special Collections or University Archives setting; understanding of information technology applications in an archives environment; experience with digital collections practices; and project management supervisory experience
