Michigan Technological University is hiring an Archivist.
The Archivist is responsible for key public services and archival collection processing and description in the Michigan Technological University Archives and Copper Country Historical Collections, a department of the Van Pelt and Opie Library. This position is instrumental to providing and developing robust and innovative services and resources for the campus and community from an archives focused on the history, culture and people of Michigan’s Copper Country. This position will be responsible for all aspects of archival reference, including customer service, collection maintenance and research support services using a wide variety of methods and technologies. In addition, this position will also be responsible for accessioning, arranging and describing print and digital collections acquired by the department. Initiatives to widely and accurately expose the archives’ collections and engage students, scholars and visitors in the effective use of its holdings will depend on the Archivist’s knowledge and enthusiasm for high-quality service, collaboration and flexibility with new technologies, standard practices and willingness to stay current with directions in the profession. In addition to a great work environment, Michigan Tech is located in Michigan’s picturesque Upper Peninsula, which affords many possibilities for exquisite scenery and outdoor activities near the shores of Lake Superior.
