Proposed Michigan K-12 Social Studies Standards

Hello MAA members,

This is Christiane Evaskis-Garrett, your new Vice President. I’d like to draw your attention to the proposed Michigan K-12 Social Studies Standards. The final version of the standards are up for review and open for comments through June 30, 2018. For more information concerning how these standards were produced, click here.
In addition, the Michigan Department of Education is hosting Listen and Learn discussions at the following locations from 6:00pm-8:00pm:

June 18 – Genesee Intermediate School District, Erwin L. Davis Education Center, Room ABCD, Flint
June 19 – Saginaw ISD, Saginaw
June 20 – Oakland Schools, Waterford
June 26 – Eastern Upper Peninsula, Sault Ste. Marie
June 27 – Michigan Library & Historical Center, Lansing
June 28 – Kent ISD, Grand Rapids

As stewards of Michigan history, it’s important for us to know what’s being taught to our youth and to make sure they’re getting the full breadth of the historical record. Please take some time, review these standards, and let the Michigan Department of Education know your thoughts.
