  • Career planning/advice
  • Cataloging and metadata
  • Collections management
  • Conservation
  • Copyright
  • Exhibits on a budget
  • Fostering a diverse profession
  • Fundraising, and Grant writing
  • Non-traditional (e.g., museums, libraries, corporate), and small archives
  • Preserving scrapbooks, ephemera, maps, blueprints
  • Processing
  • Project Management
  • Promoting collections
  • Records Management
  • Reference
  • Repository round-up (short updates on projects presented on at past conferences)

These are, of course, only suggestions – if you have a particular project or an idea not on the list, we would still love to hear from you! Additionally, please consider using the https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17EeenffUGr3E4SBx1E0oxHGK-FaUYXqh1roffOQ6t00/edit?usp=sharing to find others interested in your topic.

Please send us your name, topic idea, and a brief description of the topic or session to cait.brennecke@gmail.com or badgle10@msu.edu. Please submit your proposals by December 15, 2017.

Michigan Archival Association Annual Meeting: June 15-17, 2016

March 15, 2016

We are excited to announce our program for MAA’s 2016 Annual Meeting! Members should be receiving their printed Meeting Programs in the mail about now, and it is also available to anyone online.

The Michigan Archival Association invites all Michigan archivists and those working with or interested in archives to attend our 2016 Annual Meeting in East Lansing, Michigan, taking place June 16-17. This year’s meeting site is the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center, located on the campus of Michigan State University. The 2016 program offering includes presentations on collection management, student engagement, emerging technology, oral history, local history, and more. Conference attendees will also enjoy a reception at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center, and tours of the historic MSU campus, the innovative MSU Libraries, Beaumont Tower and the MSU carillon, and Spartan Stadium — not to mention opportunities to venture out on your own for treats like ice cream at the MSU Dairy Store, art at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, or a show at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts. In addition, the Greater Lansing area offers a wide array of cultural and recreational opportunities, such as visits to the State Capitol Building, designed by leading Gilded Age architect Elijah E. Myers, the Michigan Historical Center, and the Michigan Women’s Historical Center & Hall of Fame.

This year, we are pleased to present as our pre-conference workshop an afternoon class on “Working with Audiovisual Collections,” led by Ryan Edge, Media & Digital Preservation Librarian at Michigan State University Libraries, on June 15 at the MSU Main Library. Read more about the workshop in the flyer attached at the end of the online Meeting Program.

The Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center is our conference hotel. Located on the Michigan State University campus, the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center is a 15-minute walk or a short drive to downtown East Lansing’s restaurants, shops, and cultural venues. All lunches and sessions will take place at the Kellogg Center. There is wireless access, and covered parking is available for a fee to hotel guests. A block of rooms has been reserved for June 15-17. The reservation deadline is May 16, 2016, for the discounted conference rate.

On-site registration will be available during the conference. The on-site rate is $85. Discounted registration is available for those who submit their registrations by May 11, 2016. Registration includes lunch for both days of the conference. For registration instructions, please see this year’s Meeting Program.

We thank our generous sponsors who have contributed to making our Annual Meeting possible and are listed in the Meeting Program.

See you in East Lansing!

UPDATED CONFERENCE INFORMATION

March 14, 2011

The 2011 Annual Conference Program Committee is finishing up the final details for this year’s conference, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, June 14-15, 2011, on Beaver Island, Michigan. Yes, there was a date change due to the popularity of the island as a wedding destination and because it is such a cool place to visit. Those factors contributed to the lack of room accommodations for our members. So, we moved it up a few weeks and blocked out rooms for you at three large hotel/lodges. The three hotel/lodges that are holding rooms for MAA members until April 13, 2011, for the nights of June 12-15, 2011, are listed below. You must tell them that you are an MAA conference attendee to reserve a room.

Emerald Isle Hotel

Laurain Lodge

I also encourage you to make reservations for your travel to the island, either by ferry or air. Visit the Beaver Island Chamber of Commerce transportation site to make reservations and other planning at:

The MAA board looks forward to welcoming you to our first island conference and offering you a variety of rofessional sessions and personal adventure on this unique Michigan resource.
