The Michigan Archival Association invites all Michigan archivists and those working with or interested in archives to attend our 2016 Annual Meeting in East Lansing, Michigan, taking place June 16-17. The 2016 program offering includes presentations on collection management, student engagement, emerging technology, oral history, local history, and more. Conference attendees will also enjoy a reception at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center, and tours of the historic MSU campus, the innovative MSU Libraries, Beaumont Tower and the MSU carillon, and Spartan Stadium — not to mention opportunities to venture out on your own for treats like ice cream at the MSU Dairy Store, art at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, or a show at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts. In addition, the Greater Lansing area offers a wide array of cultural and recreational opportunities, such as visits to the State Capitol Building, designed by leading Gilded Age architect Elijah E. Myers, the Michigan Historical Center, and the Michigan Women’s Historical Center & Hall of Fame.

This year, we are pleased to present as our pre-conference workshop an afternoon class on “Working with Audiovisual Collections,” led by Ryan Edge, Media & Digital Preservation Librarian at Michigan State University Libraries, on June 15 at the MSU Main Library. Read more about the workshop in the flyer attached at the end of the online Meeting Program.

March 14, 2011

The 2011 Annual Conference Program Committee is finishing up the final details for this year’s conference, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, June 14-15, 2011, on Beaver Island, Michigan. Yes, there was a date change due to the popularity of the island as a wedding destination and because it is such a cool place to visit. Those factors contributed to the lack of room accommodations for our members. So, we moved it up a few weeks and blocked out rooms for you at three large hotel/lodges. The three hotel/lodges that are holding rooms for MAA members until April 13, 2011, for the nights of June 12-15, 2011, are listed below. You must tell them that you are an MAA conference attendee to reserve a room.

Emerald Isle Hotel

Laurain Lodge

Beaver Island Lodge

These are only three of many hotel/lodge/motel and private home rental options. Visit the Beaver Island Chamber of Commerce accommodations website for more options at:

I also encourage you to make reservations for your travel to the island, either by ferry or air. Visit the Beaver Island Chamber of Commerce transportation site to make reservations and other planning at:

The MAA board looks forward to welcoming you to our first island conference and offering you a variety of rofessional sessions and personal adventure on this unique Michigan resource.
