Michigan History Day

As part of our mission to support the state’s cultural heritage community, MAA sponsors the Best Entry in Use of Primary Sources special award at the annual Michigan History Day competition. Run by the Historical Society of Michigan, Michigan History Day and its regional and state competitions are part of the National History Day Contest competition.

In 2017, the Best Entry in Use of Primary Sources special award went to Samantha Conkling and Maya Gates of Eastern Middle School in Ada, Michigan, for their Junior Division Group Website, “Bravery Against Slavery: The Stono Rebellion’s Fight For Freedom.” Samantha and Maya also received a National Finalist award, and competed at the National History Day contest where they finished ninth in their category.
