Open Entry Spring 2023 Submissions

Hello, everyone!

The editors of Open Entry are now seeking submissions for our Spring 2023 issue.  The deadline is Tuesday, February 28.

We are looking for the following:

• Michigan Repository news and announcements.
• Archivists in the News: the arrivals, departures, and achievements of Michigan archivists.
• Internship articles by Michigan students or by interns in Michigan.
• Articles related to archival work that you would like to write.
• Mystery Photos.

Submissions can be text within your email message or as attachments.

Typical article length ranges from 200 to 1,200 words.  If you have questions about what to write, or how to write it, we are happy to work with you.

Open Entry, Fall 2015: Last Call!

The deadline for submissions to the Fall 2015 issue of Open Entry, the MAA newsletter, is fast approaching. Fortunately, you still have time! Email your items to the editors at openentry.editors@gmail.com by the end of the day on Tuesday, September 15.

Read on for a description of what we typically seek from our contributors.

Open Entry- Print or Electronic Subscriptions

Recently, at the annual business meeting of the Michigan Archival Association in April, it was decided by member vote that the print version of the Open Entry newsletter would be continued in addition to the electronic version. Over the past year, we have been distributing both the print and the electronic versions, to help everyone make an informed decision. Now that the issue has been resolved, we would like to regularize and streamline things.

The editors of Open Entry are now collecting your subscription preferences. These preferences will be saved so that we will not have to ask you again. (If you change your mind later, though, you may do so!)

Please reply to me at rbizonet@gmail.com with your preference for the electronic version (PDF) or the print version by Thursday, July 12.

Contribute to Open Entry

The editors of Open Entry are now soliciting submissions for the fall issue. Please note that the deadline for submissions is September 12.

We are looking for the following:

-Photographs, especially of the annual conference, and of images that complement your news items or articles. We would like to continue the mystery photo series, so any unidentified photographs are also welcome. Please send your photographs in jpg format, 300 ppi. The size should be a minimum of 1200 x 900 pixels and a maximum of 1500 x 2100 pixels.
-Content: We are looking for repository news items; information about new or interesting collections; and articles about Michigan archives, archivists, or the archival profession. These could be literature reviews, or reports about special projects, events, exhibits, tours, grants received, or anything else relating to archives in Michigan.

We have two new features, introduced over the last year: New Book Alert and Little-known Collections. We would appreciate your submissions for these categories.

Also, if you have a list of your Civil War collections, or articles pertaining to these collections, please send them to us. Over the next 4 years, we would like to publicize these.

Please email submissions to Barbara DeWolfe at bdewolfe@umich.edu or to Rebecca Bizonet at rbizonet@gmail.com . They should be in the form of a Microsoft Word document of 200-1,200 words. Please use Garamond font, 11pt, but if you forget, we will change it!

Open Entry delayed

Due to unforeseen problems in the production process, the latest issue of Open Entry has been delayed. It should be mailed out by mid-April.

Submit to Open Entry this week

Any submissions for OPEN ENTRY, the MAA newsletter, should be by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11th. The actual publication date will be sometime around Friday, October 16th, so you can plan your
submissions accordingly.

Submissions can be e-mailed to Bob Garrett, Open Entry editor, at garrettr1@michigan.gov. They should be in Microsoft Word format and be anywhere from 200-1,200 words. The preferred font is Garamond, 11 pt., but that’s not required (We’ll be happy to change the font ourselves.).

Accompanying images are always welcome. In fact, they’re encouraged. These should be in jpg format, 300 ppi (For the less tech. savy among you: ppi and dpi are the same thing.). The size should be a minimum of 1200 x 900 pixels and a maximum of 1500 x 2100 pixels. If you have questions about scanning or sizing images, then please let the editor know.

Content: We’re interested in any news items or articles relating to Michigan archives, Michigan archivists and the archival profession. These can include literature reviews, reference hints and news from
archival repositories. The latter can include staff changes, collection updates, special projects and promotional events, among other things. If you have any questions on accepted subject matter, then please contact Bob Garrett.
