The Midwest Archives Conference (MAC) is soliciting applications for the 2024 Louisa Bowen Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Students in Archival Administration.

The Louisa Bowen Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Students in Archival Administration is a scholarship worth $1,000 and a one-year membership in the Midwest Archives Conference. Applicants must be a resident or full-time student residing in one of the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Applicants must also be currently enrolled or accepted into a graduate, multi-course program in archival administration and have a GPA of at least 3.0 for the most recent academic year.

The application due date is March 31st, 2024.

DEI Support Fund: Call For Applications!

The DEI support committee is pleased to announce our first call for applications! As a reminder,  the DEI support fund is dedicated to fulfilling our mission to “foster a collaborative and inclusive professional network” by supporting DEI initiatives, projects, and programs in Michigan archives, libraries, and museums. The current award is $500.

SAA Mosaic Scholarship Open for Applications

The application period for the Society of American Archivists’ (SAA) Mosaic Scholarship is currently open, with a deadline of February 28, 2018.

The Mosaic Scholarship was established to provide financial and mentoring support to minority students pursuing graduate education in archival science, to encourage students to pursue careers in archives, and to promote the diversification of the American archival profession. The award is given to applicants who demonstrate excellent potential for scholastic and personal achievement and who manifest a commitment both to the archival profession and to advancing diversity concerns within it.

Up to two scholarships of $5,000 each will be awarded, contingent on available funds. In addition, each scholarship recipient receives a one-year complimentary membership to SAA and complimentary registration to the Society’s Annual Meeting for the year in which the scholarship was received.

Announcement: 2018 Marilyn McNitt Memorial Scholarship

January 24, 2018

The Marilyn McNitt Memorial Scholarship funds a student to attend the 2018 Michigan Archival Association Annual Meeting to be held in Bay City, Michigan, June 14-15, 2018. The scholarship covers lodging for two nights and conference registration. The recipient will also receive a $250 stipend for travel costs and a one-year membership to MAA. In addition, the scholarship winner will be invited to write an article for the MAA newsletter, Open Entry, about the conference experience.

The scholarship is open to graduate students in an archival science program or related field. To apply, please submit a completed application form (MS Word .docx format) and application statement to Brian Wilson at brianw@thehenryford.org. The deadline for applications is April 1, 2018.

Marilyn McNitt was an archivist at the University of Michigan’s Bentley Historical Library for twenty-five years. Her commitment to researchers and students was an inspiration to fellow MAA members. The scholarship honors her years of dedication and service to MAA.

Reminder: MAC Archie Motley Memorial Scholarship Application Period Open

The Midwest Archives Conference (MAC) is soliciting applications for the 2016 Archie Motley Memorial Scholarship for Minority Students. The scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to minority students pursuing graduate education in archival administration and to encourage ethnic diversification of the MAC membership and of the archival profession as a whole. Two $750 scholarships, accompanied by one-year memberships to MAC, will be awarded.

In order to be eligible for a scholarship, the applicant must be of African, American Indian, Asian or Pacific Islander, or Latino descent; must be a student currently enrolled in or accepted in a graduate, multicourse program in archival administration; and must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in his or her academic program. If the program is not listed in the SAA Directory of Archival Education, http://www2.archivists.org/dae, the applicant must provide proof of the multicourse standard by submitting copies of course descriptions from the institution’s current departmental catalog. Applicants are not required to be residents of or attend school in the MAC region.
