The University of Michigan’s Bentley Historical Library seeks an enthusiastic, collaborative, and innovative archivist to document and preserve the history of athletic competition at the University of Michigan.

Under the general supervision of the Bentley’s Archivist for University History, the Archivist for Athletics is responsible for building, maintaining, preserving, promoting, and providing access to athletic-related archival content, in a variety of formats, chronicling the history and development of athletic competition and the administration of athletics at Michigan.

The Bentley Library collects and makes available material about athletics ranging from student-managed teams in the 19th century to today’s current Athletic Department and dedicated athletic facilities. Since 1990, the Bentley Library has partnered with the Athletic Department to develop one of the most comprehensive archives of collegiate athletics publicly available anywhere.

The position will also support and participate in the general work of the university archives including field work, general historical inquiries, instructional support, reference, and outreach.

The Walter P. Reuther Library of Wayne State University seeks creative, curious, and service-oriented applicants for the full-time, two-year term position of Instruction and Outreach Archivist.

Reporting to the Reuther Library Director, the position will lead instruction and outreach activities that engage constituent communities and promote the use and development of archival collections. The successful candidate will also work closely with peer Archivists, Librarians, and University staff and faculty to incorporate primary sources into classroom instruction and present coordinated, comprehensive information literacy instruction to targeted student communities. This two-year role will be provided with dedicated peer mentoring to aid in onboarding, development of pedagogical and research support skills, and familiarity with the Reuther archival collections.

The Archivist is responsible for the acquisition, assessment, processing and reference, preservation, records management, planning, budget preparation and management, security, search and retrieval systems, as well as related community outreach.

Master Degree in archives and Records Management or Library Science with a concentration in archival work preferred. Bachelor Degree required. Qualified candidates will have three to five years experience in archival work, preferably with a religious congregation as well as knowledge and experience in records management, research, systems management, cataloging, and preservation standards relative to archival work. As a member of the Historic Resources team, the Archivist is responsible for the organization, preservation, storage and access to the archival collections at the Historic Ford Estates, which includes the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House and the Henry Ford Estate – Fair Lane. The Archivist develops, implements and upholds archival policies and procedures with regard to processing, documentation and accessing archival collections. The Archivist will also lead the development and implementation of an institutional archival/records management policy for the organization. S/he will be responsible for providing scans of images and documents as needed using appropriate digital and metadata standards, as well as researching copyright and ownership issues. The Archivist will work with the Collections team as needed to prepare the archival collections for the relocation into new or improved storage conditions. The Archivist may also assist on tasks related to digital assets and the associated database, as needed.
